Mark Flint, BVSc, PhD, DACAW

Dr. Mark Flint is an American Veterinary Medical Association board-certified specialist in Animal Welfare, a clinical veterinarian, and a research scientist. His work applies a One Welfare framework, integrating animal health, environmental systems, and human wellbeing.
Mark is the owner of Flint Welfcare, a consulting agency focused on advancing health and welfare standards across environmental and commercial sectors, with an emphasis on conservation and sustainable resource use. He brings over 25 years of experience in research and academia. He previously served as Head of Zoo and Wildlife Medicine and Founding Director of the One Welfare and Sustainability Center at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine.
Since 1995, Mark has led wildlife and marine research across Australia, Africa, and the United States. His work focuses on how environmental and commercial stressors contribute to emerging diseases in terrestrial and aquatic species, using multi-species approaches to identify pressures affecting ecosystem and species health. He is widely published and regularly invited to speak at conferences, universities, and industry events. As a U.S. Army veteran, Mark has extensive experience working in complex international environments and collaborating with stakeholders across government, industry, and communities.
His education includes a PhD in Conservation Medicine, MPhil, MApplSc, and BVSc from The University of Queensland, and a BSc(Hons) from the University of Tasmania.
