About Us
Why We Exist
Institute for Climate Action, Research, and Experience was founded in 2026 by Dr. Damon Watkins and Dr. Jess Lasoff-Santos in response to three converging crises. First, extreme weather and climate-related disasters are becoming more frequent. Second, much of climate research focuses on environmental systems, while less attention is given to how climate change affects people's emotional, social, and physical wellbeing. Third, funding for climate research being very limited at a time when communities need more answers, not fewer.
We created I-CARE to help fill that gap: funding and conducting human-centered climate research where we collect data, listen to people's stories, and craft practical solutions to help communities cope, recover, and take action.
