Jess Lasoff-Santos, PhD

Co-founder

Dr. Jess Lasoff-Santos is a behavioral and environmental researcher focused on climate resilience and public decision-making. At I-CARE, he oversees day-to-day organizational management and research projects. Jess brings over a decade of experience in climate psychology research, research administration, and project management. 

His work uses climate psychology to strengthen individual and community resilience to climate change, with a focus on translating behavioral research into practical strategies for climate adaptation and engagement. His research spans topics including community climate planning, climate distress, household adaptation behaviors, and future-oriented decision-making.

Jess has been conducting climate and environmental psychology research since 2014, beginning with his work at the Princeton University Office of Sustainability. His research has been published in peer-reviewed journals including Environmental Practice, and he has presented at conferences such as the Behavior, Energy, and Climate Change Conference. He has also led workshops and presentations translating research for practitioner audiences, including climate communication professionals.

Jess has extensive teaching and training experience, having taught over 350 undergraduate and graduate students in environmental psychology and behavior change. He has also provided instructional support to over 40 first-time graduate instructors and contributed to faculty development in online and hybrid learning environments.

Jess holds a PhD in Environment and Sustainability and an MS in Natural Resources and Environment from the University of Michigan, and a BA in Writing from Ithaca College. He is particularly interested in advancing applied research that supports practitioners, communities, and institutions in responding to the behavioral and emotional dimensions of climate change.
